CHIPPA United will face defending champions SuperSport United in a mouth-watering Nedbank Cup semifinal at the Nelson Mandela Bay stadium on a date yet to be decided. The semifinal draw was made last night and the Premier Soccer League (PSL) also announced that the final will be played at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban on June 24.

Four clubs remain in the competition – defending champions Supersport United‚ Orlando Pirates‚ Chippa United and Golden Arrows – and one of them will walk away with the title on the 10th anniversary of the event.

The draw was conducted last night and saw the Chilli Boys pitted against United, while Orlando Pirates will resume their rivalry with old foes Golden Arrows.

The dates‚ venues and kickoff times of the two semifinal matches will be confirmed at a later stage.

Chippa United striker Katlego Mashego said the Chilli Boys would continue to make history in the Nedbank Cup and go through to the finals in Durban.

“The one thing that we should be happy about is playing at home. We’ve played all our fixtures at home.

“The only time we want to play away is when we go to Durban to lift the cup.”

Mashego said everything had worked in their favour in the competition and that was why they were able to make it this far.

“We got the best draws. We played two NFD teams and one PSL side, Polokwane City.

“I think at this stage of the competition you can’t choose who you want to play. You have to be ready to play anyone.”

He said the only thing to do now was to focus on SuperSport and see what happened next.

“The PSL and Nedbank want to make the 2017 edition of the Nedbank Cup final special – after all‚ we are celebrating 10 years of a wonderful partnership‚” she said.

“The Moses Mabhida Stadium is one of the country’s most iconic venues and we have hosted some historic finals there.

“From Monday‚ we will intensify planning to ensure we deliver a spectacular world-class event.”
