Alghadeer set for Glenlair win

- Racing Editor

A HAT-TRICK of wins is on the cards for Alghadeer in the Glenlair Trophy over 3 200m at Fairview tomorrow.

A cheque of R93 750 is up for grabs for the winning horse, while Crown Of Gold’s course record of 210,71 seconds set in 2016 could also be in danger.

Alghadeer has adapted very well to his new surroundings since relocating to Port Elizabeth from the Mike de Kock yard. He has only finished out of the top four twice in eight starts and has won three races in the Eastern Cape. Tomorrow he is chasing a third consecutive win for the Grant Paddock yard.

He won his last two starts comfortably, beating Notting Hill and Coltrane by 4,75 and 2,75 lengths respectively. On both occasions Louis Mxothwa was in the saddle and he takes the ride again.

They seem to be a potent combination and could therefore notch up an eighth career win for owner Mr AM Paddock.

Coltrane could be his biggest opponent. The former Joey Ramsden-trained gelding will run his third race for the Tara Laing yard. He lost both his previous starts to Alghadeer, finishing 2,75 lengths behind in his last race and nine lengths back in his penultimate.

Karl Zechner takes over the ride from Callan Murray and the pair could be a huge danger, carrying 6kg less than last time.

Arezzo and Pyramus should also get some support. Arrezo is a four-time winner from 27 starts, while Pyramus has won four races from 43 outings.

Muzi Yeni takes over the ride on Arezzo from Bernard Fayd’Herbe, while Ryan Munger will replace Mxothwa on Pyramus.

Arezzo was only 3,25 lengths off the winner in his last race, while Pyramus had a runaway victory of 9,25 lengths in his last outing.

Crown Of Gold is a seasoned campaigner and can never be underestimated. Although already eight years old, the son of Silvano still has the ability to produce.

Kingston Mines and Matador In Red are upset material.

And can Messageinabottle win again? Well, at Fairview anything is possible.

The meeting starts at 1230 with a Maiden Juvenile Plate over 1 400m.
