Junior soccer leagues see action galore

THE fourth round of the Pefa junior soccer leagues took place at fields around the Bay on Sunday.

The U6s and U8s gathered at the Hearts fields in The Valley, with Callies U6 Knights beating the Hearts Lionhearts 3-1. All three goals came from the boot of Jude Roman in his first hat-trick in club soccer.

In the U8 Bull league, the Hearts Warriors pulled off a narrow 4-3 win against the Debonairs Pizza St George’s Braveheart­s. Trent Smith and Aya Qashami each scored a brace for their teams, while Cole Bennet, Derek Ayankoya and JC van Tonder also found the net with one goal each.

In the U8A section, Priory Chiefs beat Callies Claymores 5-1, while the St George’s Dragons beat Callies Warriors 7-2 with a second hat-trick of the season for Kamva Mrwadi.

In the U10 leagues played at the Union field, Hearts Eagles beat the St George’s Supernovas 1-0 in a closely-contested affair with Dinge Ndubele scoring the winner for Hearts.

The Callies Aces drew 1-1 with Priory Pirates, with Nathaniel Saunders equalising for Callies.

In the A section, the Hearts Lads beat Callies Thistles in an exciting game that ended 3-2 in favour of Hearts, while the Callies Highlander­s made their intentions clear with an emphatic 5-0 win over Motherwell Academy, who have struggled to find their previous form. Morgan Mould and Ethan Mothoo both scored a brace for the Highlander­s.

The Hearts Lads and Callies Highlander­s share an early lead on the logs with 10 points each. In other games, Priory United beat Callies Braveheart­s 4-0, with a hat-trick from the boot of Ross Hiscock.

In the U14 age group, Callies A beat Forresters 2-1, with both Callies goals coming from Josh Chandler. Leeds United went down 2-1 against St George’s B, with goals by Kamva Nolokwe and Lisakhile Kalipa for St George’s.

Alex van der Berg scored two for Hearts in their 4-2 win against Callies B, while St George’s Aces put in a strong performanc­e to thump Motherwell Academy. St George’s Aces and Callies A head up the logs on 12 points each, with St George’s edging Callies on goal difference.

In the U16 league, the St George’s B team gave Callies A a good run, losing by four goals to three.

Zinedan de Kock scored two for Callies, with Liam Felix and Malachi Capido getting a goal each, while Nick Kingston, Ryan Oborn and Milano Mrwadi each scored for St George’s.

Hearts beat the St George’s Colts 3-1 with Ajay Al Shene scoring a brace for Hearts, while log-leaders NMMU thumped a lacklustre St George’s A team 7-1.

In the U18 division, Callies put in a solid effort to beat KwaDwesi All Stars 2-1, with Eliah Bartjies and Calvin Staisch finding the back of the net for Callies, while St George’s beat NMMU 1-0 in a close game at the Missionval­e campus with Litha Manoni scoring the only goal.

St George’s top the U18 log with three wins from three games.
