Resounding wins for Masters front-runners

BOTH of the front-runners in the NMB Masters League scored resounding victories on Sunday.

Ama-units, who are seven points clear at the top of the log, thrashed struggling Joe Slovo 5-0.

A brace by Simphiwo Betterhoot and a third by Andile Fundam saw Volkswagen retain second spot with a 3-0 win over New Brighton. PE All Stars battled to a 4-3 win over Villagers to remain ahead of Eleven Attackers in third place on goal difference.

Luzuko Hambaze (2), Monde Dikana and Nontane Dzadza scored for Stars.

Luthando Mayo, Bonani Ngcangaza and Bongani Magwashu scored one each for Villagers.

In another close encounter, Sparks beat Veeplaas 3-2.

Thando Kana, Kaizer Qunta and Thanduxolo Gxwalintlo­ko scored for Sparks.

Eleven Attackers and Young Pirates, who are fourth and fifth on the log, played to a goalless draw.

In a surprise result, struggling Soweto held Zwide Masters to a 0-0 draw.

In the third draw of the weekend, PE Eleven and Gqebera drew 1-1. Zolile Makhaphela equalised for Eleven after Vuyani Msipa gave Gqebera an early lead.

THERE were several close calls in the Wafa Premier League at the weekend, with three of the six matches ending 3-2.

In the first match of the day, Eleven Experience edged out Manchester United 2-1.

Walmer Hotspurs ended Mabayibone Strikers’ winning streak with the first 3-2 victory of the day.

In a one-sided match, Real Madrid thrashed Walmer Stars 4-1. Morning Stars hit Brazil United for the proverbial six, winning 6-0.

In a match that could have gone either way, Peace United beat Airport Valley United 3-2.

In an equally close match, Ghetto Stars upset the odds when they beat high-riding African Aces 3-2.
