Pearson crowned U16 Metro champions
THE Pearson U16 netball team were crowned Metro champions at the weekend, defeating Despatch 15-6 in the playoffs final.
Pearson were dominant from the start and a solid defensive performance ensured the necessary ball for their shooters. Chante Smith earned herself the player of the match accolade.
Overall, the age-groups were dominated by Pearson 10-1 in the 11 matches played.
The U14As also emerged triumphant in their match with a narrow yet convincing 12-8 win.
Mikyla du Plessis was declared the player of the match.
In both matches Pearson players demonstrated committed resolve and superior handling of the windy conditions in their narrow yet convincing victories under trying circumstances.
The first team were involved in another drama-filled match of intense pressure and high character.
Pearson’s young team had to dig deep to overcome a determined Despatch for a 16-12 victory. Demi de Jager sank the long goals that secured the victory and was named player of the match.
The Pearson “A” team met and conquered NMMU 18-9 in what turned out to be the final of the Mid-Year B League competition at Young Park at the weekend.
The victory earned them gold medallist status in an adult higher league competition.
Captain Abby van Rensburg was deservedly named player of the match.
The Pearson netball teams also hosted Daniel Pienaar and there was a clean sweep of results for the home team
The U14Bs won 19-0 against the DP U14As and, after a titanic first-half struggle, the U16B1s ran out comfortable winners 14-7 over DP’s U16As.
The U18B team produced a near-perfect match in cold and very windy conditions, easily defeating DP Firsts by 34-8, with captain Lisemari Roulstone excelling to take the player of the match honours.
Pearson hosted Outeniqua from George in hockey fixtures at the weekend.
The first team game on Friday night was played in cool conditions but that did not stop the teams from giving their all.
The Pearson boys were the first on the scoreboard just before half time from a clinical field goal converted by captain Jacques Potgieter.
Outeniqua continued to defend well but a collapse in their defence saw Julian Dalton break through three defending players to put Pearson’s second goal in.
Matthew Lewis scored his first goal for the first team to make the final score 3-0.
