Not-so-easy ride for Easy Street

- Punters’ Pal

IT might not be so easy again for the mare Easy Street today at the Fairview racecourse.

She should probably start as the favourite to win the main race after notching up three fine victories in a row.

Attempting to make it four on the trot will be the biggest test for Easy Street in a while.

The opposition in the Milkwood Stakes for fillies and mares over 1 000m looks tough. Easy Street also has to carry a hefty weight of 61kg.

In her hat-trick of victories she was ridden by apprentice Liam Tarentaal, who claimed his 4kg allowance on each occasion.

There will be no claim today when JP van der Merwe will be in the saddle.

Easy Street is in tremendous form since trainer Gavin Smith decided to put blinkers on her.

Many brave punters will be looking at Easy Street as a banker bet.

The satellite yard of Corne Spies is in fine form though and looks a danger with four runners in the race.

Two of the Spies runners, Seattle Singer and Favour’s Pride, look ready to run big races.

Nordic Breeze, Natural Tan and Fly Peg Fly are the others to keep an eye on.

It has not been easy days for punters at Fairview recently and another tough assignment awaits them.

Some punters were probably in need of some charity after the rough Pick 6 results at Fairview, but it was good to see the local racing fraternity still doing their bit for charity.

At last Friday’s meeting, the Community Chest and the East Cape Horse Care Unit received their cheques from the charity drive at the Derby weekend.

Jimmy Gotyana, from the Community Chest, was very grateful for the nearly R40 000 and promised to put it to good use in the needy communities.

Punters will focus on Greyville in Durban tomorrow where the main events are the Daily News 2 000 and the Woolavington 2 000.

The Daily News 2 000 is always a good pointer to the big one, the Durban July, and punters will be interested to see what transpires.
