Underdogs Spring Rose out to give confident SAPS run for their money

- Yonela Mofu mofuy@timesmedia.co.za

THE final first-round fixtures of the Eastern Province Grand Challenge Cup rugby competition will be played this weekend, with teams looking to give it their all as they aim for the silverware.

Underdogs in the competition, Spring Rose, travel to Kemsley Park to clash with a determined SAPS side, who will be fighting for a win at home.

The sides will be clashing for the first time this season and the SAPS camp will have added morale in their squad after winning their encounter against Spring Rose last year.

Spring Rose fell to a 41-15 defeat at the hands of Parks in last week’s encounter and the fact that they are playing away could count against them as they chase victory.

SAPS received a 22-12 lashing from Kruisfontein last week and the result takes their losses to three this season, while Spring Rose are sitting on two losses so far.

NMMU and Parks have concluded their first round of matches and will be watching in anticipation for the outcome of the weekend’s matches.

All games are scheduled to start at 3.30pm.

Fixtures:

Group A: Progress v Brumbies (Central), Stars of Hope v Trying Stars (Mqolomba), Despatch v Gardens (Despatch), Gelvandale Wallabies v Crusaders (Chapman) Group B: United Barbarians v Born Fighters (Ramaphosa), Harlequins v Central (Adcock), African Bombers v Kruisfontein (Zwide), SAPS v Spring Rose (Kemsley).
