Good payouts should resume

PUNTERS get clever! Christmas does not come twice a year.

Fairview is not always as friendly as last Friday - the small dividends were a rare occurrence at a track known for its lucrative results. It stands to reason things will revert to normal with good dividends tomorrow.

Main event is the Lady’s Slipper Stakes over 1400m offering total prize money of R150,000.

Several contenders have their eye on the biggest cheque, but Alan Greeff, Gavin Smith or Corne Spies look the most likely recipients.

Greeff seems to be a short head in front, with Greg Cheyne on Nicole.

The daughter of Antonius Pius had two great opening runs for owners Messrs CG and LF Scribante.

In her first outing she ran third, one length behind Grazia, and she followed up with another third, 0.50 lengths behind Leia Organa. Those races were over 1000m and 1200m respectively.

Tomorrow she takes on 10 rivals over 1400m and looks ready to strike.

Watch out for Smith and Spies-trained runners Precious Pansy, with JP van der Merwe aboard, and Craig Zackey’s mount Perfect Dawn respectively.

Precious Pansy is a onetime winner from three career starts and was beaten a head by Banjo Bust over 1400m here in her last outing.

With Van der Merwe in great form, they could be a serious threat to the Greeff runner.

Perfect Dawn will jump from pole position. The daughter of Await The Dawn, who has won one race from six starts, will be making her Fairview debut and could be a serious threat.

Others to consider are Singing In Seattle, Widow’s Lamp, Azusa, Banjo Buzz (3kg worse off with Precious Pansy) and Leia Organa.

In the final analysis Nicole should get home ahead of Precious Pansy, Perfect Dawn and Singing In Seattle respectively.

Racing starts at 12.30pm with a Maiden Plate over 1200m in which Battle Creek looks likely to start favourite, but beware Karl Zechner on Make It Count.
