Callies on top after 4-1 victory

THE sixth round of the Pefa junior soccer leagues took place at fields around the metro on Sunday.

Callies U18 put in a strong performanc­e to beat Highbury with a convincing 4-1 win which sees them move to the top of the log.

At the Union fields, Motherwell Academy had a comfortabl­e 2-0 lead at the break, but a determined St George’s outfit fought back to make the final score 2-2.

Chippa United continued their unbeaten record this season with a 2-0 win over Kwadwesi All Stars, putting them in second place on the log, one point behind Callies.

In the U8 section, Debonairs Pizza St George’s U8 Aces beat Priory Warriors 2-0.

Enzo Kruger (4) and Cameron Muthen (2) provided a goalfest as Priory Chiefs beat Hearts Tigers 6-0.

Hearts All Stars beat Callies Rievers 2-0, with Jarrod le Roux and Jess Sauls finding the back of the net for Hearts.

The Hearts Gladiators and Priory Chiefs top the log, both with six wins from six games.

In the U10 age group, Jayson Archibald (2) and David Reid (1) scored for the St George’s Aces in their win over Motherwell Academy, while Callies Highlander­s went on the rampage against Priory United, winning 5-0.

In other games, the Priory All Stars beat Callies Braveheart­s 3-0 with Paul Gie finding the net for Priory. Callies Highlander­s lead the table on 18 points with the Hearts Lads lying second with 13 points

In the U12 league, Hearts B and Callies B drew 1-1 in an exciting game with Bonga Dube scoring for Hearts while St George’s U12 A beat Forresters 3-1, with goals by Luke Hartel and Likhona Mjelo.

In the U14 league, St George’s U14A beat Forresters 5-1 while Hearts beat Kwadwesi All Stars by the same margin.

Motherwell Academy beat Callies B team 2-0. St George’s A and Callies A lead the log with 18 points each.
