Goals aplenty in weekend of upsets

-

THE two Friday night Pefa Score Premier League fixtures realised 10 goals in what proved to be a weekend of upsets.

Callies hosted NMBM at Londt Park.

NMBM scored in the second minute but Callies hit back with two goals almost immediately.

NMBM then scored again, making the score 2-2.

In the 80th minute, Callies took the lead for the second time.

They could not hold on and in the last minute NMBM netted their third, so the points were shared with a 3-3 final score.

Mahle Old Grey, who were looking to return to winning ways after having drawn their last two fixtures, welcomed PE Home Rovers to Old Grey Sports Club.

The game started off at an electric pace with Old Grey taking the game to PE Home Rovers.

An early set piece, which led to a goal line scramble, saw Luvuyo Pele Bika open the scoring.

Old Grey’s second came after a good cross from John Giannakis and was slotted home by Zithulele Mhlontlo.

Provider turned scorer shortly after this and Old Grey were three-up in 15 minutes after a Giannakis header.

The game then slowed down and although Old Grey were always in control they did concede a consolation goal close to the end with Lydon de Klerk scoring for PE Home Rovers.

Saturday saw the bulk of the fixtures and in another upset Forresters stunned NMMU Madibaz with the last kick of the match to secure a 1-0 win.

Highbury played their first game at Bridgemeade this season after the field was passed for play. But it was not a happy opening for Highbury, as Chippa United extended their 100% record, winning 3-2.

In what can probably be called an upset result, Blue Ribbon St George’s beat third-placed Central Acemates 1-0 at the Union fields on Saturday.

St George’s striker Liam Broek headed in a superb cross to find the back of the net in the first half, a lead which St George’s held until the final whistle.

EP Command was the venue for PE Defence versus Rising Stars. Rising Stars were left with that sinking feeling, losing 6-1.

Hearts played against Leeds United at NMMU south campus B field due to the Valley being declared unfit for football.

They beat Leeds 6-5 to claim a valuable three points.
