Gqebera make Ama-units work hard for 3-2 triumph

NELSON Mandela Bay Masters League log-leaders Ama-units were almost put to the sword by struggling Gqebera at the Dynamos field on Sunday.

The log leaders, straight from a 7-0 thrashing of Eberspache­r last week, escaped with a 3-2 win over the team that are two places away from the bottom of the log and trail them by 45 points.

Bangisizwe “MJ” Bona, Andile “Ace” Faas and Tsepo Mangwana scored for Ama-units.

Vuyani Msipa and Roger Habana replied for Gqebera.

Volkswagen scraped home to a 2-1 win over Veeplaas to retain second spot.

Gary Williams and Banele Phozisa scored on either side of the break for Volkswagen. Zandisile Yoyo scored for Veeplaas.

Young Pirates recovered from their 4-0 thrashing by Sparks last week to hand out the same punishment to Zwide Masters.

Ayanda Hlakuva led the charge with a hat-trick. Ntsikelelo Mdepa added the fourth.

A goal by Koko Mlambo and Xolani Galela on either side of the break saw Soweto beat Winners 2-1.

Luyanda “Jomo” Brown scored for Winners.

Ir was another close call for Eleven Attackers, who beat Sparks 1-0.

Last week, Attackers beat Steve Tshwete Villagers 4-2.

Mandisi “Gondwe” Goniwe scored the only goal of the match in the first half.

A hat-trick by Siyabulela Swartbooi and a goal each by Andile Peter and Sikuyo Mbunye saw Eberspache­r thrash tailenders New Brighton 5-1.

Mbulelo “Ncangathi” Funde scored the consolatio­n goal for New Brighton.

A brace by King Mfoloza and third by Khaya Shenxane saw PE Eleven thrashed 3-0 by Villagers.

In the final match of the day, PE All Stars beat Joe Slovo 2-1.

Luzuko “Dzuyi” Hambaze and Malibongwe “Shongwe” Smith scored for Eleven. Thanduxolo Ntshinga scored for Slovo.
