Treatment from nurses shocking

- Disgusted, Newton Park, Port Elizabeth

I AGREE with you wholeheartedly, Derrick Fellows (“Not worthy of name”, June 27).

There is nothing to be proud of anymore.

Everything has been stripped from the onceproud profession held by so many hard-working nurses.

The respect, caring and excellence that was given to all patients was phenomenal.

Nurses were always busy taking care of patients from when they walked into the hospital until clock-out time.

Now, whether they attend to 10 patients or 30 patients, they still get paid the same, so why kill themselves on the job?

Too many tea times, walking up and down at a slow pace with a piece of paper in hand, pretending to be busy.

Leaning against walls and doors chatting is the death of me.

No greeting or smile, but an abrupt “next”.

You can greet them, but don’t expect anything in return.

Shocking, absolutely shocking, but they don’t realise that if it was not for us patients they would not have jobs.

The waiting for hours at clinics is ridiculous.

Too many chiefs and not enough ordinary workers being taught what it is to earn one’s salary.

I’m sure Florence Nightingale’s lamp went out.

I wonder if they have ever heard of Florence Nightingale or if they earned their right to be called nurses?
