Special party day at Fairview races

- Punters’ Pal

IT will be one huge party at the races today as it is the 40th anniversary of the Fairview race course.

To boost the party, members of the Nomads Golf Club will be enjoying their annual race day – and it should be a great one.

The party will gain momentum if winning bets are struck and there are nine races on the card for punters to get involved in.

The feature race is the Breeders Stakes for fillies and mares.

Two top Cape Town trainers, Justin Snaith and Candice Robinson, have some very useful fillies in this race to give the Bay stars a run for their money.

Clear Sailing and Easy Street will carry the hopes of the Bay. They have been very consistent and the raiders will have to be at their best to take the prize money back to Cape Town.

A Cape Town visitor that will be hard to beat though is filly Sabina’s Dynasty, in a Maiden Plate in Race 5. That should be the banker of the day’s racing.

The meeting at Fairview will be the start of a very busy weekend for racing fans, with the highlight the running of the elite Vodacom Durban-July at Greyville tomorrow. For punters it will be a feast of betting opportunities with huge pools guaranteed.

The Pick Six dividend at last year’s meeting was more than R4-million – and the card looks very competitive again.

The Pick Six pool is expected to be R11-million strong on the totalisator and the Quartet in the Durban July will also be a popular bet, with an estimated pool of R15-million.

In the July, the tote will pay out on six places – and it will be worth looking for some value here among the outsiders.

The July will be a thriller, with the younger charges well in at the weights.

Edict Of Nantes and Al Sahem have a lot in their favour, but there are some older horses that will not make things easy for them.

Port Elizabeth-born jockey Piere Strydom won the race last year, from a wide draw, on The Conglomerate.

He will try to the same, this time on It’s My Turn.
