Aryans A stage fightback to beat B side

ARYANS A had to overturn a 4-1 deficit to defeat their B team in a thrilling finish as the second round of the Nelson Mandela Bay table tennis leagues started with a bang this week.

In a fixture played at a high pace, the B team built a decent lead before captain Neil Hendricks, Michael de Kock, Raj Bhana, Dipal Bhana and Thiagasen Pather launched a fightback to level the score at 5-5.

De Kock then came to the A side’s rescue by playing constructi­ve topspin strokes to defeat Ridaa Hendricks 6-11 11-9 11-8 for a 6-5 victory.

The other exciting match of the evening saw Madibaz A narrowly defeat Aryan C 6-5.

Despite Kabeer Choonara (Aryan C) winning all of his games, Madibaz A showed they are a force to be reckoned with.

Callies A easily defeated Livvie Alumni A 9-2, with Robert Kuscus leading them to victory.

In the first league, Livvie Alumni B defeated Madibaz B 8-3, with Chris Rockman going unbeaten.

For Rockets B, Dion Muller showed good form as they outplayed Aryan D 10-1.

Callies B narrowly edged Rockets A 6-5, while Despatch A, with Julian Horne as their star player, defeated Madibaz C 7-4.

In the second league, Livvie Alumni C beat Aryan E 7-4, Rockets C overcame Callies D 9-2 and Despatch B eased past Callies C 9-2.
