Seven sides still on track for top Wafa position

- Mogan Segadavan

AS the teams begin the second round, the race is still wide open in the Walmer premier soccer league, with just nine points separating the top seven sides.

Peace United, who retained their one-point lead with a hard-earned 3-2 win over Ghetto Stars last week, should have it a lot easier when they play Walmer Hotspurs tomorrow.

Hotspurs lost 2-1 to a struggling Manchester United in their last match.

The clash between Golden Heroes and Real Madrid tomorrow should be a real humdinger.

The teams are second and third on the log, with two points between them.

Heroes will be back in action against Mabayibone Strikers on Sunday.

Maximum points from both matches will see them return to the top of the log.

Last week, Heroes were in a mean mood, thrashing Young Aces 14-0, while Madrid were equally impressive.

They thrashed Brazil United 9-0 and Eleven Experience 3-0.

African Aces, who are handily placed to challenge for league honours, play Airport Valley United tomorrow and Eleven Experience on Sunday.

Both teams are near the bottom of the log and are unlikely to hinder Aces’ challenge.

Fixtures:

Tomorrow: Real Madrid v Golden Heroes, Airport Valley United v African Aces, Brazil United v Mabayibone Strikers, Walmer Stars v Manchester United, Peace United v Walmer Hotspurs Sunday: Manchester United v Young Aces, Morning Stars v Walmer Stars, Eleven Experience v African Aces, Golden Heroes v Mabayibone Strikers

WITH the Nelson Mandela Masters league title heading for the Ama-units cabinet, the battle will be for the runners-up berth over the next four rounds.

Maximum points against Joe Slovo at the Molefe field on Sunday will give Ama-units an unassailable tally of 65 points.

Last week, the log leaders were held to a surprise 2-2 draw by Steve Tshwete Villagers, who are outside the top eight.

Just two points separate the next three teams, with Eleven Attackers, who came close to suffering defeat at the hands of unfancied Eberspacher last week, lying second.

They are scheduled to play PE All Stars, who are just a point behind them.

In their last match, Stars thrashed PE Eleven 3-0.

Volkswagen, who dropped from second to fourth after being beaten 1-0 by Zwide Masters, are a point behind Stars.

They face a difficult match against Sparks, who are just one place below them.

Zwide should score their second consecutive win when they play joint-tailenders Joe Slovo in the first match of the day at the Dwesi field.

Fixtures:

Zwide Masters v Joe Slovo (Dwesi), Winners v Steve Tshwete Villagers (Dwesi), PE Eleven v Veeplaas (Molefe), Ama-units v Soweto (Molefe), New Brighton v Gqebera (Winter Rose), PE All Stars v Eleven Attackers (Stinging Bees), Young Pirates v Eberspacher (Volkswagen), Volkswagen v Sparks (Volkswagen)
