Teams jostle for places in local leagues

MAJOR Chiefs became the outright log leaders in the Ntando Tours Premier League on Sunday when they beat Real Crusaders 2-0 at the Zwide Stadium.

Both teams were in a three-way tie with Sophakama at the top of the log, with Chiefs leading on goal difference.

Sophakama suffered a shock 4-1 hammering at the hands of Hungry Lions.

Young Brothers scored the biggest win of the weekend, beating tailenders Zwide Celtic 5-1.

In another high-scoring match, Zwide Pirates thrashed Young Killers 4-0.

Shooting Stars scored an easy 3-1 win over struggling Kuyasa United.

The First Division got off to a dismal start with Everton, Manchester City and Soweto Angels failing to produce players cards and forfeiting their matches.

WITH Highbury having a break, the chasing pack failed to close the gap at the top of the Safa-NMB Women’s League A Stream on Sunday.

Warriors, who could have tied with the log leaders, drew 0-0 with Shatterpru­fe, who are two places away from the bottom of the log.

Africa Chiefs, who could also have tied with Highbury, lost 2-1 to Hearts.

Kubs beat tailenders Tomorrow Stars 2-0 to tie with Chiefs in third place. All the matches in the B Stream were one-sided. Bodene, who top the log on goal difference, thrashed Young Aces 7-0.

Joint log-leaders Dower United beat Park United 5-1. Golden Stars hammered Kuyga Ladies 6-1 while Volcano blew away Walmer Ladies 5-0.

GOLDEN Heroes regained their position at the top of the Wafa Premier League on Sunday with a 1-0 win over Mabayibone Strikers at the Walmer Community field.

Peace United, who topped the log after being awarded a walkover against Walmer Stars, drop to second on goal difference but have a match in hand.

It was an excellent weekend for African Aces, who are now third, five points off the pace.

They followed up their 3-2 win over Airport Valley United on Saturday with a 1-0 win over Eleven Experience the following day.

Meanwhile, Brazil United, who were thrashed 9-0 by Real Madrid last week, became the third team to withdraw from the league this season. They followed Popular and Airport Valley City. The league has been reduced to 13 teams.
