Grey boasts 62 boys in provincial sides
GREY High had a total of 62 scholars representing various Eastern Province sporting teams during the holidays, with 12 going on to receive national recognition.
The EP U18A hockey team ended fourth, with Jarryd de Kock and Matthew Keevy being chosen for the SA U18B team.
Cody Posthumus, Kyran Cooney and Luke Wynford were included in the SA U17 high performance squad.
The EP U16A team ended third, with Stuart Grenfell, Ricky King and Jared Kirsten all being selected for the SA U16 high performance squad.
The Eastern Cape U14A team, which included Daniel Butler, James Hofmeyr, Joshua Stephenson, Thomas Daniels, Jade Smith, Joshua Voigt and Kayrian Le Minnie, won the national tournament at the SA Winter Games, beating Western Province 3-1 in the final.
Grey had nine players in the Eastern Province U18 Craven Week rugby team.
The side lost their first match, but bounced back to trounce the Blue Bulls and to narrowly beat the Leopards.
Skipper Bevan Prinsloo was named man of the match for both games.
Eastern Province squash teams excelled in their tournaments.
The U19A side won silver at the national U19 week in Cape Town, losing a nail-biting final 3-2 against Western Province.
Four of the five Eastern Province players were from Grey – Murray Schepers, Gerard Mitchell, Juandre Vente and Russell Horn.
Schepers and Mitchell had successful tournaments and were ranked in the top 10 in the country at the end of the week.
Besides playing for the EP senior team in the Jarvis Cup, Schepers has also been to New Zealand to compete in the U19 World Cup.
The Eastern Province U19B team, including Murray Keeton and Thomas Southway, and the U14A side (Dean Venter, Ryan van Eyk) both won their respective tournaments.
Venter and Van Eyk both made the SA U14 team.
