Visiting boys hit right note
RIEBEEK College Girls’ High School pupils were treated to a unique instrumental tutorial session last week by the Grey High School String Band, who used music to bring a new note to school work.
Grey High String Band conductor Marliza Taylor gave the girls interesting insight into the various items performed.
The pupils received an educational session in classical and contemporary music through a programme aimed at encouraging them to pick up an instrument.
Kieran Stear, principal of Riebeek College, said: “Riebeek girls are very good at making people feel valued and appreciated, and their applause and appreciation at the performances were astounding.
“They thoroughly enjoyed the performance. Congratulations to Grey on growing the talent of these exceptional young men.
“Thank you to the teachers and drivers involved.”
Grade 4 Riebeek Girls’ High School pupil Teisha van Aardt echoed Stear, saying: “It was a day well spent and we enjoyed all the performances which the boys put on for us. It really is amazing the talent they have and how easy they make it look to play one of these instruments.
“I am sure it encouraged a lot of girls to give music a chance and pick up an instrument themselves. We all had lots of fun meeting the Grey boys and learning a little more about music. Hopefully they will return soon to give us our next lesson.”
