Expect a blast with ‘Hurricane Thenjiwe’

Comedienne set for Boardwalk after world tour

-

TAKE a break from being cold and gloomy and ring in the start of spring with stand-up comedy show Hurricane Thenjiwe on Friday at the Boardwalk.

Comedienne Thenjiwe “Tay” Moseley ventures to Port Elizabeth for a whirlwind showcase at the Boardwalk Amphitheatre, the first time this self-dubbed “laugh technician” is unleashing her brand of humour on the Bay.

Moseley has recently completed an international tour to countries such as Swaziland, Nigeria, the UK, Scotland and Canada – and, unlike Hurricane Dineo, who never reached South African shores, this hurricane promises to deliver floods of jokes.

Her opening act will be local rising star Sqazolo.

Moseley, who grew up in KwaMashu in KwaZulu-Natal, initially studied drama before heading to the US where she worked as an au pair for two years.

She then moved to the UK, with the intention of staying for two years – but remained for 12 – bagging a law degree, a new career in the legal field, a husband and a child. The funny mum is still based there today, living with her family in Guildford but regularly travelling to South Africa and elsewhere for shows.

The story of how she landed up in comedy is quite haphazard: Moseley had just finished a good day in court and decided to celebrate.

The bar she and her colleagues went to was hosting a comedy night and she was convinced to get on stage.

As luck would have it, a talent scout in the crowd saw her perform and organised a few corporate gigs for her.

She eventually entered the Funny Women Awards in the UK and made it all the way to the finals – and hasn’t looked back since.

Even though based abroad, Moseley keeps her roots in the local comedy industry with her popular videos which she uploads on Fridays onto social media.

Radio station Gagasi FM also plays her skits and her material is based on relevant topics of the day.

Tickets are available at the Boardwalk and at Computicket, from R150 to R250.

Friday’s show starts at 8pm.
