ARTS: ‘Idols’ favourites to sing hearts out in Bay
Bevin Samuels, Loyiso Gijana and Keegan Martin to perform
ATRIO of young singers who cut their teeth on SA Idols – including two “home boys” from the Bay – will be giving their hip-swaying performances at the Boardwalk on Friday night.
Bevin Samuels and Loyiso Gijana will join Soweto-bred singer Keegan Martin on stage at the amphitheatre for a onenight show, starting at 7pm.
Samuels is well-known to television viewers as he melted hearts each time he smiled and did one of his signature poses in last year’s season of the reality singing show.
After matriculating, the dynamic young musician took a gap year to focus on his music.
The moment he was the judges’ pick for the Idols top 10, he knew he had made the correct choice.
Every time he was chosen to move forward in the competition, Twitter and Facebook would be bombarded with messages of support for him.
Unfortunately, despite many votes from all over South Africa, he left the competition when the top five were revealed.
He will be joined on stage by Gijana and Martin, another two Idols favourites.
Gijana is another Eastern Cape contestant, and is still at school at Muir College in Uitenhage.
Although he did not win, he has performed at the Saftas, and many other events, and is busy building up a massive fan base with his feel-good music.
Martin, who discovered his love for music at just eight years of age, made the Idols top seven.
He started off singing in both his primary and high school choirs, becoming his high school choir’s conductor in his matric year. He also conducted Noordgesig High School in Soweto’s choir the following year.
One of his biggest achievements was being the opening act for international R& B sensation Tasmia at Carnival City during her visit to South Africa in 2013.
Another highlight was when he performed as backup singer for the world-famous Marvin Winans and Donnie McKlurkin at Perfecting Church International in 2012.
Tickets are available at Computicket for R100 for general seats and R150 for VIP seats.
