EEF leader slammed for claim on Magaqa
THE ANC Youth League slammed EFF leader Julius Malema yesterday for claiming the late Sindiso Magaqa was considering joining the red berets before being shot.
Shortly after Malema graduated from the University of South Africa with a Bachelor of Arts Honours Degree in Philosophy last week‚ he said he had asked Magaqa repeatedly to join the EFF as a regional organiser.
“The ANCYL has noted some extremely distasteful remarks on the back of cadre Sindiso Magaqa’s passing‚” ANCYL secretary-general Njabulo Nzuza said.
Nzuza was speaking at the ANC headquarters on the preparations for the funeral of the former Youth League secretary-general‚ who died last week from wounds sustained during a shooting in July.
The funeral was pushed back a week after Magaqa’s mother collapsed and was taken to hospital.
Malema claimed further that before Magaqa died‚ he had indicated that he wanted to discuss the matter with his wife before taking a final decision.
On Friday‚ Malema visited the Magaqa family and was shocked when he inspected the bullet-riddled vehicle his friend and former comrade was driving when he was ambushed.
When the ANCYL was disbanded in 2012‚ the red berets leader was its president and Magaqa its secretary-general‚ and the two remained close friends.
Magaqa and two fellow ANC councillors from the Umzimkhulu Municipality were attacked on July 13. Magaqa was recovering in hospital‚ but died last week.
