Dagga worth R1.2m found in KwaDwesi
A BAKKIE packed with more than half a ton of dagga – valued at R1.2-million – was confiscated at a house in KwaDwesi yesterday.
A tip-off led police to the house where a Mazda Drifter was found with 26 large bags of dagga.
Police spokesman Captain Andre Beetge said intelligence operatives received word of a bakkie packed with bags of dagga parked outside the house.
“A combined operation between the Motherwell Operational Command Centre, crime intelligence, the flying squad and the K9 unit was set into play,” he said.
“The 26 bags of dagga, with a weight of almost 500kg and with an estimated street value of about R1.2 million, were confiscated.”
Beetge said the 46-year-old vehicle owner was arrested and would appear in the New Brighton Magistrate’s Court today.
Police spokeswoman Colonel Priscilla Naidu said 36 people were also arrested for drug-related cases in the Mount Road cluster at the weekend.
“Several houses of alleged drug dealers were searched and drugs including Schedule 6 prescription drugs were seized,” she said.
On Saturday, Walmer police confiscated almost 17kg of dagga with an estimated street value of R55 000.
“Members approached a stationary vehicle in the Greenshields Park area,” she said.
“As they approached, the driver sped off. Police searched the area and found the packages of dagga.”
