CHIPPA United reserve team coach Glen Minnie is disappointed with his side’s 3-1 loss to Ajax Cape Town in their opening MultiChoice Diski Challenge season fixture at the Wolfson Stadium in Kwazakhele, Port Elizabeth, at the weekend.

The Young Urban Warriors bagged their first three points of the season, with second-half goals from Justin Jacobus, Masilake Phohlongo and Sedwyn George. Luxolo Nabo scored for Chippa. “If you look at the chances we had in the first half, if we had closed those chances it would have been a different game all together,” Minnie said.

“They had three moments and used them.

“We had many more moments but did not use them.

“Whenever you lose a game, you learn more. So, we are going to go back and work harder.

“You can’t have the third best defensive record last year and you concede three goals in your first game of the season, that is out. We just have to go back, carry on and focus on our next game.

“I did not want to find us in a situation where we are playing catch up,” Minnie said.

Ajax young team player coach Duncan Crowie said although he was happy with the win, there was still more work to be done.

Overall, he was about 70% satisfied with his team’s performance, he said.

“A win is always important, but the most important thing is probably the way the players played, how well they played in their positions, how well they distributed and also the technical side of the players as well,” Crowie said.

“This league is all about getting them better and developing young players. Yes, there are still a lot of things to work on, but we can see they can play.

“The will to win was there and that is also a very important part of being a professional player.”

Besides the three points bagged, the Ajax coach said he was also happy with his defence.
