Juniors battle it out in semis

THE Knockout Cup semifinals of the PE Football Associatio­n junior leagues took place at fields around the metro on Sunday.

In the U18 division, Debonairs Pizza St George’s beat KwaDwesi All Stars 1-0 at Kemsley Park.

Chippa United beat Motherwell Academy 2-1 at the Oval to set up a St George’s-Chippa final.

The winners of the U16 league, NMU, struggled to find their form against St George’s Braves.

However, after a 0-0 scoreline halfway through the second half they turned up the heat to score five goals before the whistle.

Hearts downed Callies 3-1 in the other semifinal.

Rivals St George’s and Callies faced off in the first U14 semifinal. St George’s eventually won 5-3 for a place in the final.

In the other semifinal, Motherwell Academy beat Forresters 1-0.

In the U12 division, Forresters beat Hearts 2-1. They will meet Callies in the final after they defeated Priory Shamrocks 1-0.

The U10 A semifinals saw some fantastic soccer played at Union, where both the Callies Highlander­s and Hearts Lads won their games 1-0, against Motherwell Academy and St George’s Aces respective­ly.

In the U10 B section, St George’s Supernovas played to a 0-0 draw against Priory City.

In a penalty shootout, Priory City won 3-1. In the other semifinal, Hearts Eagles beat Priory Pirates 1-0.

Winners of the U8 A league, Hearts Gladiators, beat Callies Claymores 2-1, while Priory Chiefs beat Callies Warriors 1-0.

In the U8 B section, St George’s Braveheart­s beat Hearts Warriors 1-0.

The other semifinal between Callies Saltires and Hearts All Stars was decided in a penalty shootout, 7-6 to Saltires.

In the U6 division, Callies Barons and Knights both won their games to set up an all-Callies final.

Knights beat Motherwell 2-0, while Barons beat Hearts Lionhearts 2-1 in a penalty shootout.
