OCULARISTS Vida and Danie Trümpelmann have been helping patients with custom-made artificial eyes and scleral (cosmetic) lenses in Port Elizabeth since 1992.

The couple have fitted many individuals, including babies and young children born with under-developed eyes (micro-ophthalmic) or in certain instances, no eyes (anophthalmic).

With their 45 years combined experience, they bring cutting-edge technology such as correcting severe lid problems, fitting difficult near-full globe scleral lenses, alleviating the removal of the eye, and making the ocular prosthesis life-like with their prowess in colour-matching.

Their knowledge in the scope of ocularisty is conveyed to their patients as they share the latest discoveries in the field.

Vida is an associate member of the American Society of Ocularists. The couple visit the US annually to do courses and examinations towards achieving international certification.

They also attend the biennial meetings of the Association of European Ocularists. Being part of a global society allows the patients who visit them at their three branches to have access to the best that can be offered including support systems such as Maps (Microphthalmia, Anophthalmia Parents Society).
