Chippa aim for vital home triumph

AFTER a two-week international break, Chippa United return to action this week determined to end their five-game winless run in the Premier Soccer League.

The Chilli Boys, who host Maritzburg United at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium on Wednesday (7.30pm), are 12th on the log, with seven points from seven games.

Chippa last tasted victory two months ago when they beat AmaZulu 2-0 at the NMB Stadium and since then things have been sour for them.

They lost 3-1 against Baroka and then played to four consecutive draws, with their most recent result being a 1-1 stalemate against secondplace Golden Arrows.

However, newly appointed caretaker coach Teboho Moloi will take comfort in the fact that his troops have not lost a game in the four matches since he has been in charge.

After their game against Arrows, Moloi said the players were starting to get the hang of things in terms of his tactics.

He said his focus areas during the break would be to instil discipline and self-belief among the players.

But his biggest task was to make them understand that a point away was a plus, but at home a win was a must.

Meanwhile, Maritzburg have also gone downhill after an impressive start to the season, having gone three matches unbeaten in the league and also reaching the MTN semifinals.

The Team of Choice will be hoping to get back to their winning ways on Wednesday after four games without a win.

With the team still mourning the death of their player Mlondi Dlamini in an accident earlier this month, coach Fadlu Davids will have a big task this week to get their mindset on track for the Chippa game.
