Public servants not doing jobs properly

REGARDING the letter, “Public servant an example for all” (November 7), I believe Lawana David Vaaltein has highlighted the problems in the public service.

It is pointed out that excellent service was received from Nandi Sikutshwa, chief of staff of the Eastern Cape premier, but surely that is not her job. A person in such an elevated position should be ensuring that officials of “local, regional and provincial” offices do their jobs.

That is why she is in the position she holds and why her subordinates are in their positions (and paid their salaries from the public purse).

It must be obvious that she cannot possibly deal with all the concerns of the public which are not dealt with by uncaring, incompetent officials.
