Rates go up by more than 100%

BEING an elderly pensioner and having lived in this house for 50 years, I wish to tell you my story:

Up till the end of June my rates were R1 583.98 per month.

My new rates are R4 066.72 per month, that is up by R2 482.74 per month, more than 100%. I am sure this must be a record. I have no pool or tennis court, so there must be gold in the slopes.

I have naturally objected, but have still to hear. Naturally I am not paying these new rates. If this goes on, there will be a lot of empty houses owned by the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality.
