Gym club takes gold at champs

- Yonela Mofu

HARD work paid off for the Anderson’s Gymnastics Club when it won gold in the recent National Gym Games in Pretoria.

The club was part of the Eastern Cape team which took part in the competition.

A total of 12 members from the club participated in the women’s artistic category and received a gold for vault discipline.

In the men’s artistic category, eight members competed and won two gold medals in the trampoline, as well as picking up a silver medal and a bronze.

They also took three silvers and two bronze medals in tumbling, and added to their tally with an impressive three golds, four silvers and three bronzes in the double mini trampoline.

The club had to participate as a team in the two qualifying EC Gymnastics Association (ECGA) trials that were held earlier this year.

They had to meet the criteria for selection in the ECGA team for the men’s and women’s artistic gymnastics and for tumbling and trampoline.

Raising the bar for the club was Lenita Kotze, who was selected to represent the South African Gymnastics Federation in the age-group category in Bulgaria for the double mini trampoline in the World Championships at the weekend.

Meanwhile, Aminah Lindoor is in the national team for the Region Five trampoline competition that will take place in Namibia from December 5 to 10.
