Party does not own colours, says Khoza
THE ANC does not own a group of colours‚ or dictate how those colours should be arranged‚ former party member Dr Makhosi Khoza said.
She was responding to a claim by the ANC that her new party‚ the African Democratic Change (ADeC)‚ has used its colours and logo to confuse voters.
Khoza launched the ADeC in Johannesburg last week.
The ANC said on Monday it would report the party to the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) for what it considered a deliberate appropriation of its colours and also its logo.
Khoza took to Facebook to respond, saying: “The alien‚ corrupt ANC that I left accuses me of subterfuge.
“I do not understand Gwede [ANC secretary-general Mantashe] and [spokesman Zizi] Kodwa’s problem,” she said.
“When I resigned‚ I made it very clear that I’m taking the good ANC with me.
“All I took was a good legacy. The ANC does not own any colour and how it should be arranged.”
ADeC spokeswoman Feziwe Ndwayana said the party had not heard from the IEC yet.
On Monday, the ADeC said: “The ADeC wishes to point out that the use of black‚ green and gold in political party and country flags across Africa is rooted in the description these colours carry about our continent‚ which cannot be exclusively appropriated to a single party.”
It said it was grateful for the role of the ANC as a liberation movement, but it would not apologise for taking the baton from the liberators.
