Morgan has been honoured
THE unfounded comment by Logie, ex-resident of Short Street, North End, Ghost Town (“Morgan not recognised”, December 5), cannot go unchallenged as his comment undermines the work being done by the Port Elizabeth Sports Legends Trust.
It certainly does not warrant it, but I will respond individually to all his factually incorrect assertions:
ý The trust presents awards to living legends at its gala event annually;
ý During the event a posthumous tribute is also done and all former sportsmen who passed during the year or who were previously not acknowledged, are then honoured.
If Logie was a bit more informed he would also have realised that [Thumbie] Morgan was honoured posthumously at one of our prior events;
ý His personal attack on Colin Abrahams is uncalled for as Abrahams is not a trustee and is in fact a recipient this year because of his enormous contribution to the sport of hockey in this region.
Our apologies to Abrahams for this unfortunate misinformed personal attack on him.
The trust is an independent legal entity that is not affiliated to any sporting bodies, and as such its objectives are solely to honour and recognise those individuals who were never properly recognised as a result of our history or because the various codes have not honoured their legends themselves.
If any individuals would like to honour individual sportsmen they are welcome to forward the names to one of the trustees and the adopted criteria process of evaluating potential recipients will then be followed.
Logie is very welcome to look at our Facebook page, The Port Elizabeth Sports Legends, or make contact with any of the trustees.
