Artisan brews on tap hit the spot at Rattle and Hum

- Brett Adkins

RICHMOND Hill food emporiums which spill out on to the pavement lend themselves to summer – and so it naturally follows, to sundowners too.

One spot that focuses its attention just as much on its table as its bar counter is the Rattle and Hum which, if you’re an 80s music fan, you will remember what Irish rockers U2 were doing back in the day – rattlin’ and hummin’.

This Stanley Street establishment is friendly and intimate while still maintaining a lovely airiness which will cool you down after a long hot day on the beach – or if you’re straight from the office and not quite on holiday just yet.

High tables, eclectic decor and wood finishes add to the casual ambience.

Bottled craft beer and a range of wines, spirits, ciders and liqueurs are on offer but it’s the artisan brews on tap that will really hit the spot when it comes to whetting your whistle.

The tell-it-like-it-is Fokof draught – named after SA rock band FPK – is full-bodied with a brisk, thirst crunching aftertaste while the Jack Black is an equally lusty neighbour.

Service here is also tops – and that is always a terrific plus. Call Rattle and Hum on (041) 582-2434.
