Feast of fun on cards at Fairview

- Punters’ Pal

GET ready for a feast of horse racing (and partying) at Fairview for the rest of the year.

There are still five local meetings left for 2017, starting with a bumper meeting today. It will be a real busy day for everyone as we have not had a meeting of 10 races for a while at Fairview.

Punters must keep in mind that the 10th and last race will not be part of the exotic bets.

The very popular Place Accumulator will start with the third race and the Pick Six will get under way in the fourth. As the regular Fairview racegoers will know, there is a vibrant atmosphere at the December race meetings with some companies enjoying their year-end functions and many out-of-town visitors joining in the festivities.

Maybe the blonde in the black number will again be there to draw the attention of the regulars, like last Friday when the staff of a financial institution had their function at the races.

The blonde remarked that she didn’t know Port Elizabeth had a place like Fairview (really?).

She promised that we will see her every Friday from now on.

As usual it will be very competitive racing today but there are a few horses in fine form that should help us along.

Curved Light (race 2) could be a banker in the first leg of the Bipot while the filly Beat about the bush looks ready to run a big one in race six when she renews her rivalry with Star Burst Galaxy.

Later in the day, Laws Of Succession (race 7) and the R1-million buy Plano (race 8) will be popular bankers, both running in the colours of big-time owner Markus Jooste, whose resignation as chief executive of Steinhoff made headlines this week. It is uncertain what impact this development will have on the racing industry as Jooste is a very influential figure in the sport.

If things go wrong today for punters, they can return to Fairview on Monday when there will be eight races on the card.

There is also the Memorial Mile on the 15th, another Fairview meeting not to be missed.
