Last Ocean Series round

HOBIE Beach will be a buzz of activity on Sunday as the final round of the aQuellé Ocean Racing Series for the year takes place from 9am.

About 500 participan­ts are expected and they can compete in one of the seven events on offer – 5km beach run/walk, kids’ 1km beach run, 400m, 1km, 2km or 3km ocean swim.

There will be two prize-giving ceremonies, at 10am for the children and at 10.30am.

Besides a R2 000 shopping voucher from Greenacres Shopping Centre, BluSmooth is offering one of its internatio­nally acclaimed wetsuits as a lucky draw this weekend.

The Ocean Racing Series is in its 13th season in Nelson Mandela Bay and Sunday will be the fifth of a scheduled 11 rounds.

At this stage, Natalie Hagedorn-Hansen and Heinrich Vorster lead the 3km ocean swim standings, and Antonella Saporta and Keegan Cooke the 2km swim.

Hannah Counihan and Cole Craig are on top in the 1km and 12-yearolds Aminah Lindoor and Connor Craig lead the 400m swim.

On the beach, Sarah Gibson and Grobbie Grobler lead the 5km beach walk, with 13year-old Lea de Villiers and Vuyisa Mthimkhulu, 16, on top in the 5km run.

The leaders in the kids’ 1km beach run are Imani Allah and Kaitlyn Richter (6 and under), Callum Loftus and Roxy Geldenhuys (7-8), Tristan Marais and Hunter Dutton (9-10), and Ibanathi Bhuqa and Amber Joubert (11-12).
