Golden Shamrock looks Smith stable elect

- Herald Racing Editor

TRAINER Gavin Smith holds a strong hand in Race 6, the first of two main races at the Fairview Polytrack meeting tomorrow.

He sends out Rosslyn Chapel and Golden Shamrock in this 1900m race and both have the form to win.

JP van der Merwe, who gets the best of the stable rides, is booked for Golden Shamrock, who ran second behind Plano over this distance last time out. The three-year-old gelding was in front until close home, but couldn’t hold on and finished 2.50 lengths behind the winner.

This time Golden Shamrock jumps from a better No 4 draw and also carries 4.5kg less. He has his third run after a layoff and could hold on this time.

Rosslyn Chapel has Keanen Steyn – who based himself in France from May to August – in the irons. He replaces Karl Zechner who was on the fiveyear-old when he ran a cracker last time, finishing second, just 0.10 lengths behind Cat In Command.

He is 1kg better off and Rosslyn Chapel could be good value.

Jeremy also has a winning chance if showing his best. Jockey Teaque Gould takes over the ride from Lyle Hewitson and the five-yearold gelding will be chasing a fourth career win from 31 starts. His last two runs were not his best and his supporters will be hoping for a much improved run this time.

I Will Be is upset material and has to be included in Quartets. His last run over 1600m on the turf was poor, but in his penultimate start he finished 1.70-length fifth behind Cat In Command over 1900m.

Cat In Command remains a big danger and also keep an eye on Wish To Land with Greg Cheyne up.

The second main event is Race 9 over 1000m where trainers Yvette Bremner and Tara Laing look strong with Kingston Warren and Flying Rock respectively.

Kingston Warren, who will have Hewitson up, is course-and-distance suited and should be in the shake-up.

Flying Rock tried hard last time when finishing 1.75 lengths behind Le Grand Rouge. He could be the one to beat if repeating that effort.

Former Brett Crawford runner Boldly Respectable makes his debut for the Alan Greeff yard and is a better horse than his last two runs suggests.

For Luck Sake and Oracle Kingdom also need to be considered.

The first race is off at 12:10.
