REPLIES TO READERS’ COMMENTS

RESPONSE to Another concerned resident (“Impression of city poor”, December 19): I agree our city is in a filthy state. In Linton Grange’s Salvia Crescent, with the newly-established taxi stand, it is impossible to walk even on the road for filth lying around and vagrants sleeping on pavements. Where is our councillor? DISGUSTED, PORT ELIZABETH

“EXTRA staff to clean beachfront” (December 19)! We have plenty, but they walk at 1km/h and chat all day. No work ethic. They carry empty bags. Just a meal ticket, doing nothing! OBSERVER

I FULLY agree with “Mr Mayor, answer us” by Jonene Cornelius (December 19). There is a water shortage. I have applied [for jobs] so many times you look like a clown. So many times, then you see again another advertisement in the paper for application for plumbers, but you don’t get any response.

You just read there’s a water shortage and please save water. Why is this if they have got interns for plumbers? Ask outsiders in the newspaper to apply for plumbers’ jobs. Are we now clowns who sit without work with all the experience? Give us hope for nothing. I don’t think it’s fair. LIONEL

CHALLENGES FOR NEW ANC LEADERSHIP

FREE tertiary education is the poison chalice that has been left to the new president, among other things. I wish you strength, Cyril Ramaphosa! E G, JEFFREYS BAY

THE ANC is to be congratulated for the disorganised elective conference where president Cyril Ramaphosa inherited some shady baggage from the corrupt Zuma era which will hinder his ability to perform effectively. DAVEY

THANK YOU FOR CARE AND KINDNESS

CHANTAL Kritzinger, your care and kindness to the brutalised woman who lost an eye epitomises the spirit of the season (“New eye brings hope after trauma” (December 19). Thank you! CELESTE BARKER, DA MPL

TEEN DRINKING A DISGRACE

IT is indeed a disgrace that young boys and girls show their talent of how to drink liquor during the festive season. On every December 16 they all flock to Summerstrand with bags on their backs full of liquor.

As a parent, this is really not tolerable. The parents should take full responsible for their kids. I so wish this event could be banned because of this bad behaviour as it has bad consequences. If you were at the opening of the season last weekend you would curse your stay. MBULELO NQONTSHA
