MTHATHA City beat Highbury 1-0 in a tight ABC Motsepe league fixture at the Nelson Mandela University 2nd Avenue campus in Port Elizabeth at the weekend.

City were desperate for a win that would put them back into the race for top position and they did exactly that with a late goal.

They have risen from fifth to fourth position and are tied on 26 points with Future Tigers.

Struggling Matta Milan look to be finding their feet in the league with a second consecutive 1-1 draw, this time against Spears.

They are slowly rising out of the relegation zone and are second from the bottom with 10 points.

A win could see them overtake City Lads into 14th position where they could breathe a little easier.

In the East London derby at the Jan Smuts Stadium, Tornado exerted their dominance over Buffalo with a 6-0 victory.

The win sees them stretch their lead at the top to 40 points, nine points clear of EC Bees.

Rock-bottom Buffaloes have not managed to find their mojo in the competition as they have only won one match from their 14 games and could be facing the axe at the end of the season. They are on seven points with a game in hand. Results: Spears 1 Matta Milan 1; Lion City 0 Sibanye 2; Highbury 0 Mthatha City 1; Future Tigers 2 Subs 1; FC Buffalo 0 Tornado 6; EC Bees 6 Try Again 0; City Lads 2 Butterworth FC 2; Pondo Chiefs 3 PE Stars 1.
