‘Gangster’ hands himself over to cops

A SUSPECTED gangster, 25, handed himself over to police yesterday after allegedly attempting to shoot a youth getting out of a taxi.

Police spokeswoma­n Colonel Priscilla Naidu said no one was injured. as a minibus driver had used his vehicle to shield the victim from the shots.

“It is alleged that on Tuesday [afternoon] a minibus was in Rensburg Street, Bethelsdor­p, with three passengers.

“As the driver dropped off a youth, 18, a shot was fired at the teenager.

“The shooter, an Upstand Dogs member, shot at the driver, [then ran] off.”

“At about 8am [yesterday] the alleged shooter walked into Bethelsdor­p police station and handed himself over,” Naidu said.

The man will appear in the Port Elizabeth Magistrate’s Court tomorrow. – Gareth Wilson
