Newton Park needs attention

-

I WOULD first like to thank the mayor and his team for their achievements thus far in our city and surrounds.

As we all should be aware of the massive backlog of neglect and corruption you inherited, we have to have a little patience.

I, too, have an issue of accumulation of leaves, etc in some of the streets in Newton Park.

I do not have these dreadful bluegums or wild plums on my verge, but a huge amount of their leaves are blown onto our property and into the swimming pool which was converted into a koi pond.

They are clogging the basket and it has to be cleaned at least once a day.

Bluegum leaves do not break down and are a curse.

Our suburb has become very busy and many a time the large trucks passing by break branches which are left in the street.

Trees overhanging the street should be trimmed accordingly.

I am 74 years of age and take pride in my garden and keep my verge tidy.

I am living on the Glen Hurd side of Newton Park.

Westview Drive (from the technical school) and through College Drive is in a state.

There is a huge accumulation of leaves in the streets and weeds.

There are very few property owners who take any interest in their verges.

If people would only make an effort to keep their verges clean and tidy the municipality must attend to the rest.

I must mention that the other side of Newton Park, which is more business than residential, looks very unsightly.

In the years gone by, the municipality was very strict about building materials/rubble outside your property and was quick to notify the owner to have it removed.

We need to activate these by-laws soon to maintain pride in our suburb and city.

A major issue that still remains is the traffic department and Home Affairs.

I am aware that improvements were made at the traffic department, but still major problems remain.

It takes an entire day most times to achieve the purpose of your trip.

When are the banks coming on board to assist with ID cards for seniors?

The hawkers at the robots should all be removed – they are a menace with their persistence and we are aware that those at Kempston Road traffic lights [allegedly] become thieves as dark approaches.

I am sure everyone is so tired of the great many so-called car guards who pester us when we are pulling into a parking. They should be removed. I am looking forward to further improvements. I thank you.
