Big entry for Senor Santa
TRIP To Heaven has been allocated top weight of 62kg for the R400 000 Senor Santa Stakes over 1 160m at Turffontein on Saturday, March 31.
The Grade 2 race has attracted a large entry of 32 runners. There are some interesting entries from both Sean Tarry and Mike de Kock. Other than Trip To Heaven, Tarry has also nominated Africa Rising and mercurial Matador Man, who has lots of talent but tends to lose ground at the start. It will be interesting to see if he does run how he handles the drop in distance.
De Kock has nominated Naafer, who had to be scratched from the Grade 1 Cape Flying Championship after a false start, as well as three-year-old Sir David Baird and Alwahsh
As far as visiting horses go, Joey Ramsden has entered Professor Brian while Paul Gadsby has nominated Vision To Kill.
The Senor Santa Stakes will be run at the same meeting as the Grade 2 Colorado King Stakes, the Grade 3 Sycamore Sprint for fillies and mares over 1 160m, as well as the Listed Derby Trial and Oaks Trial, both over 2 000m.
The R400 000 Colorado King Stakes is often viewed as a precursor to the R4-million Premier’s Champions Challenge over 2 000m on the Turffontein Standside track on Champions Day, May 5. Both run over the same course and distance.
Brazuca, Abashiri, Coral Fever, French Navy, Glider Pilot, Fort Ember and Girl On The Run have been entered in both races but there are some others who will be looking to book a place in R4-million Grade 1 race on May 5.
Brazuca has been allotted top weight of 59kg with threeyear-old Cash Time set to carry bottom weight of 53.5kg.
Supplementary entries close at 0900 tomorrow with declarations to be confirmed by 1100 on Monday, March 26.
