Why pay tax on sun, wind and rain?

HOT TOPIC: Plan to register renewable energy users

-

I AM absolutely infuriated and gobsmacked at the government’s latest move against ecologically, economically responsible citizens that can only be designed to curb the move to renewable resources, with Nersa’s proposal for consumers of renewable energy to be registered.

The government cannot provide services adequately, particularly with its gross mismanagement and lavish grants of resources to residents, who cannot return the favour by paying for the admittedly dodgy services rendered.

The entire world is promoting the move to renewable resources but here we are stuck with the powers-that-be either trying to discourage this trend because it would reduce the revenue to one of their favourite cash cows, or else they have very sneakily found a way to introduce another tax.

Very few will be exempt from this extortion since new building regulations require all new buildings to have some form of generation of renewable energy, whether solar geyser, panel or heat pump . . . all of which are in Nersa’s sights.

Refusal to comply results in the very childish response of them “taking their toys and refusing to play with one anymore”, that is, cutting one off from access to any of their services, which would have the net result of one either bowing to the bully or going totally off the grid with an even bigger system!

Furthermore, I want to know why we should be taxed on resources such as sunshine, wind and rain, which the state most certainly did not provide but was gifted to everyone by Mother Nature.

If the state gets away with this oppression of the citizens, what would be next? Tax on your water tanks? The grey water that you save to flush your toilets or water your garden?

Believe me, they are calling it registration, but the sub-text very clearly says tax.

And how are they going to police/enforce this aberration?

We have seen how effective TV licences are with approximately only 30% of TV owners actually paying up!

And now my Parthian shot. I see vast numbers of RDP houses with solar geysers . . . who is going to register them? And who is going to pay?

Or is that another subsidy that actually means more money out of your and my pocket?
