Municipal strike to start today
NELSON Mandela Bay municipal workers are expected to down tools today and embark on an indefinite strike, the SA Municipal Workers Union said last night.
The decision was taken at a general meeting of members of Samwu in the Bay.
The workers are demanding backpay for long-service bonuses, a wage review and the reinstatement of suspended workers who are sitting at home for more than three months without a disciplinary hearing having started.
City manager Johann Mettler was served with the notice last night.
The strike is expected to start from 7am today, with workers marching from the Lillian Diedericks Building to the City Hall. – Nomazima Nkosi
