Enjoy a ‘Blast from the Past’

-

The last two productions of Blast from the Past were big hits with Bay audiences, and so the PE Gilbert & Sullivan Society is back with a new line-up and more than 30 classic hits sure to have audience members tapping their feet and singing along.

“In our first concert-style show for the year, we feature some of the greatest songs from the 1950s to the ‘80s,” society president Rose Cowpar said.

“There’s something for everyone in this show, whether you were around when the songs came out or you just wished you’d been born earlier,” Cowpar quipped.

Audiences may expect two hours of iconic songs from Fred Astaire to Dusty Springfield, Ray Charles to Miriam Makeba and Billy Joel to Journey, alongside a little rock and roll, some Elvis, disco classics and more at the Savoy Theatre this week.

The production is directed by Tarryn Light, with vocal direction by Angela Freer and choreography by Sian-Beth Hitchener, all of whom will also be on stage.

“The cast of 20 has a great mix of our powerhouse theatre crew and some amazing newcomers including our electrifying dancers,” Cowpar said.

Included are previous concert show performers Kelly le Roux, Yvonne Smith, Rob Andrews, Zoe Gray, Phillip Cowie and Charl Vollgraaff.

They are joined by Broadway and Beyond standouts Charlize Visser and Abby Nel.

Alieshea Vanderryken returns to the G & S stage alongside Leighlin Burts, Andries Smith, Christelle Potgieter and Zoe Charles, making their

G & S debut.

Dancers, led by Hitchener, include Lizelle Opsahl, Mariske Knotze, Rachel Lategan and Matthew Hamilton.

The show runs from Wednesday to Saturday at 7.30pm nightly and at 2pm on Saturday July 28. Tickets are R90 each or R85 for a group of eight or more for the evening shows, and R60 for the matinee.

Patrons may choose either row or table seating. Bookings are at Computicket.
