Lady ready for her Final Fling

- Herald Racing Editor

LAST year’s Grade 1 Woolavington winner Lady Of The House is likely to run in new ownership when she contests the Grade 3 Final Fling Stakes at Kenilworth on Saturday as the Mayfair Speculators-owned four-year-old comes under the hammer at the Horses In Training/Mixed Sale at Durbanville on Thursday.

Trained by Brett Crawford, she ran on well to take third in the Listed Highlands Stud Ladies Mile last time, her first race for almost seven months. She now renews rivalry with Brave Move who won that race and finished three lengths in front of her and this time is 3kg better off.

Brave Move has been skilfully placed by Adam Marcus and goes into this with five straight wins behind her.

The other big name in the race is Fresnaye who was third in both the Cape Fillies Guineas and the Cartier Paddock Stakes during the Cape summer season. She has since won the Listed Highlands Stud Stormsvlei Mile and Winter Oaks. Her trainer, Joey Ramsden, also runs Winter Oaks runner-up Dynasty’s Blossom.

With only eight runners going to post and 1 800m to cover the draw should not prove significant.

However, low numbers are favoured in the Grade 3 Champagne Stakes on the same card as the going on the inside of the straight course is running slightly faster than the middle and outside at the moment.

Ramsden also has a strong hand in this as he runs two fancied contenders in the Ladies Mile runner-up Call To Account, winner of the 1 200m Listed Olympic Duel Stakes on her previous outing, and Made In Hollywood who was fifth in the Stormsvlei Mile.

Justin Snaith relies on last year’s winner Nordic Breeze and an interesting runner is Arissa. She was trained by Alec Laird when sixth in the Camellia Stakes at Turffontein in early May and is now with Eric Sands.
