CALLIES must avenge their 5-4 defeat by Central Acemates in the first round to retain their position at the top of the Pelfa Old Buck Gin league when the two sides meet at the Westbourne Oval on Wednesday.

The Londt Park outfit have a one-point lead over Acemates, who were knocked off the top by Kuyga Masters a fortnight ago when they were beaten 2-1.

Acemates should have an easy match against struggling Shamrocks. In the first round they won 6-1.

Since then the Rocks have gone from bad to worse.

PE City and NMB Municipality, who drew 3-3 in the first round, should be in a close battle again at the Victoria Park Sports Club.

Defending champions Kuyga Masters will expect to reverse their 3-2 defeat in the first round when they play Mahle Old Grey at the Old Grey Sports Club.

Fixtures:

Mahle Old Grey v Kuyga Masters (Old Grey), PE City v NMB Municipality (VP), African Leopards v Callies (Westbourne Oval), Central Acemates v Shamrocks (tba), Westpark v Fairview Rovers (Londt Park), St Albans v Priory (St Albans).

As part of their Mandela Day celebrations, the St Albans Football Club organised an U15 soccer tournament on Saturday.

Four teams played a round robin, with the top two meeting in the finals.

After the match ended 0-0, Young Ideas beat Major Chiefs 3-2 in the penalty shoot-out.

Ideas received a soccer kit and medals.

As runners-up, Chiefs, who scored nine goals with just one against in the round robin stage, received two match balls.

St Albans and Valentines received a match ball each.

Event organiser Thekiso Mtwana said: “We were encouraged by the enthusiasm shown by the boys.

“Next year the tournament will be bigger and better.”
