-

The Alexander Road boys’ and girls’ soccer teams both ended third in the SA Sports Tours tournament held in East London in June.

It was the first time the girls’ team took part in the tournament, while the boys made a return after missing the 2017 event.

The Alex girls made a slow start in their first match against Kimberley Girls’ High, conceding two goals in 15 minutes.

Alex clawed their way back, with Zukiswa Njini scoring to make it 2-1 at the break.

In the second half, Alex missed an opportunity to score and Kimberley sealed the game 3-1.

Alex met St Dominic’s in their second match, which ended in a goalless draw.

Against Milnerton, Amber Botha opened the scoring in the first half and Njini made it 2-0 with 12 minutes remaining.

This was followed by a 4-0 win over Academy High, goals coming from Botha, Camerin Ceasar and Njini (2).

In the semifinals, St Dominic’s took a 2-0 lead before Botha slotted a brilliant leftfooted shot to close the gap for a final score of 2-1.

The boys’ team scored a 3-0 win against Hatfield Christian School and a 1-1 draw against St Dominic’s.

They beat Milnerton 2-1, lost 3-0 to St Stithians and drew with VP.
