ANC pays tribute to Fazzie
The Eastern Cape ANC has expressed sadness and a profound sense of loss following the death of Buyiswa Fazzie.
Fazzie, who had been ill for some time, was the widow of former political activist, political prisoner, UDF leader and ANC MP Henry Fazzie.
The ANC said it joined all South Africans in mourning the loss of a true heroine of the nation, a daughter of the soil who dedicated her life to the freedom of the people.
ANC spokesperson Gift Ngqondi said together with all South Africans, the organisation extended heartfelt sympathy and condolences to the Fazzie family on their loss.
“A stalwart of our revolution is no more. A mother, a grandmother, a leader of the Fedsaw, UDF, Pewo and ANCWL and a mentor to thousands from younger generations is no more,” he said.
“What she has left behind for us is a legacy to cherish and to honour in action.”
Fazzie, together with the late Mamu Ntutu Mabhala and Ivy Gcina, formed the Port Elizabeth Women’s Organisation (Pewo)
Between 1994 and 1999, Mamu Fazzie was a member of parliament.
Details of her funeral arrangements will be announced at a later stage.
