Is there corruption in filling vacancies in the SA Police Service? On social media many applicants who finished the course and also had university degrees said they were told they had failed when they were absolutely sure they had passed. They in turn asked for marks but were refused. The rumour among applicants is their papers are sold off in the form of nepotism. They are frustrated with corruption. BOB

RESULT OF OPEN BORDERS

The illicit cigarette trade is booming, so is the illegal drug trade with heroin, tik, cocaine and plenty more on offer all over the metro. That’s what happens when you open your borders to all. It’s bound to attract plenty of undesirabl­es. So the fault lies with the ANC. Why am I not surprised?

As a former Latin teacher, I ask Dr Hicks (“Hitting children breeds hate”, December 4) where she got the idea that the word discipline came from the Latin word to lead. It comes the word discipulus (pupil), which derives from the verb discere – to learn?
