1978 The Eras­mus Com­mis­sion’s re­port im­pli­cates in­for­ma­tion depart­ment of­fi­cial Eschel Rhoodie, in­for­ma­tion min­is­ter Con­nie Mul­der and Gen Hen­drik van den Bergh in the in­fa­mous “In­for­ma­tion Scan­dal”. 1988 Nel­son Man­dela is moved from a Cape Town clinic, where he had been treated for TB, to a house at Vic­tor Ver­ster Prison. 1990 Up to 1,000 del­e­gates at­tend the PAC’s first na­tional con­fer­ence in­side the coun­try in three decades. 1991 SA writer Na­dine Gordimer, pic­tured, re­ceives the No­bel prize for lit­er­a­ture.
