City has become an embarrassment to us

-

This city has really become a dumping hole and it is an embarrassment to show visitors around.

Look at Central, at the Pearson Street area and right at the entrance of a church what a mess lies there for the better part of the week.

Don’t the residents around there have municipal bins?

I recently wrote to The Herald about damaged railings on the M4 motorway (“Thanks for taking broken rail off road”, November 13).

A part was repaired, but further back towards the Albany Road on- and off-ramps, there is still a lot that needs attention and I do not see any workman there anymore.

Have the funds for repairs and maintenance run out?

Just take the time off and see the state of this city which was once the pride of the coast maybe 20-plus years ago.

It is filthy, it is derelict, it is a sight for sore eyes.

I am ashamed.

And we want to attract tourism.

Stop worrying about name changes that do not affect daily activities.

First fix that which is in the public eye and use name change money to uplift the poor which you so rant about, especially at election season time. Noel Julius Port Elizabeth
